Summer Stitches

Suddenly, it is summer! Time to get out in the garden, to the lake, out for a walk in the woods or a cool beverage on a terrace in the shade. And when the summer gets a little too scorching, or the smoke from the fires a little too oppressive, or the rain is too heavy, there is always the lure of the sewing room.

On June 14, we had our sew-day at Sew Inspired in Arnprior, stitching up a collection of Petal blocks and Tumbling blocks to create more warm hugs. Thanks to Nancy Terry for hosting us, and thank you to all the stitchers who joined us for laughter and creativity.

We had a great turnout at the OVQG Quilt Show in May. The booth was busy with visitors dropping by with more quilts and new recruits volunteering to join our team. Welcome to all our new followers and new volunteers. The quilt show also yielded a mystery. Someone dropped off this lovely finished flannel quilt but forgot to include its tracking slip and our volunteers weren’t able to get the name of the messenger. Do you recognize this quilt? If you are the volunteer who delivered it to the quilt show, could you drop me a line so that I can get the details?

June was another busy month for presentations and 17 quilts were presented to military members. I am still surprised by the emotions that are stirred during a presentation: pride, humility, grief, gratitude. I received the following email from one of our recipients: I wanted to say thank-you again for the beautiful Quilt of Valour I received on your visit to Arnprior. It is truly a great honour and as I mentioned there are many more worthy than I to have such an honour although I am extremely pleased to be in the mix.

More presentations are being scheduled and more need to be scheduled, all we need are the quilts. Your work, your artistry is much admired and much appreciated. It is making a difference. In Ottawa, this year, we have presented 104 quilts.

I hope you are enjoying your summer. If that enjoyment needs a quilt kit to stitch up, drop a line to me or Christine.Langlois@quiltsofvalour.ca or Brigid.Whitnall@quiltsofvalour.ca.

Happy stitching!

Nancy
