Did you know that time spent quilting can reduce your blood pressure and reduce stress? It could be the repetitive processes, or it could be the joys of pattern and colour, but it’s nice to know that all that fun is good for us too.
Tomorrow, Tuesday May 9, is our sew-day at CannaConnect (215 Menten Place) from 9:30 to 3:00. We’ll bring the fabric and pattern. Scott will be providing tea, coffee, and lunch. All you need is your sewing machine with a neutral thread and the basic tools.
Last month, we worked to add borders to some of Northcott’s Canadian Panels, making 7 quilts and finishing up a few afterwards. The first two completed quilts from last month found their forever homes last Friday, presented at the Kanata Cenotaph (Colchester Square). Both recipients are very grateful for the quilts and can’t quite believe how fortunate they are to have received them.
So far this year, Ottawa has presented 70 quilts. There are another 50 recipients on our waiting list. The quilts you make for Quilts of Valour are much-loved and much appreciated. Thank you for all of the work you do!
This weekend is the OVQG Quilt Show at Cityview Curling Club on Capilano Drive. You can check their website for hours. Are you planning to attend on Saturday or Sunday? Why not volunteer at the QOVC table? Drop me a line or send an email to Christine.Langlois@quiltsofvalour.ca to reserve your spot.
The other benefits of quilting? That would be the joy and gratitude on the part of the recipient who is reminded that her or his sacrifice is remembered and valued.
