Of stitches and snips

The next sew-day is coming up on July 13, from 10:00 – 4:00. Nancy Terry of Sew Inspired has offered her shop (375 Daniel St, Arnprior) (in the mall) as a location and inimitable Paul Leger has offered to take the lead for the project. What a great way to escape the heat! If you can attend, please register by sending me an e-mail at nancy.arbogast@quiltsofvalour.ca. If you are coming from the Orleans area and are willing to add a passenger, please let me know; I have heard from a couple of people who would like to come but need a ride.

One of the advantages of quilting for Quilts of Valour, is that we get to choose the parts of the process that we most enjoy, whether that be cutting, stitching the tops, quilting, or binding/labeling. Right now, we are in need of kits. If you are someone who enjoys cutting all the pieces, of savouring the connection between fabric and design, someone who is accurate with a cutter and ruler, we need your help. The “cut-day” on August 10 will be dedicated to cutting the fabrics and organizing the kits. We will meet at CannaConnect (215 Menten Place, Bells Corners) from 9:30 – 3:00. You will need your cutting mat and your favourite rotary cutter. We will have a good selection of fabric with which to work, but if you have some 2 1/2″ strips that you would like to put to good use, or small bits of cream or white fabrics that you would like to donate, they will be appreciated. Please let me know if you are joining us, so that we can have the tables set up — nancy.arbogast@quiltsofvalour.ca.

June has been a little quiet for presentations although they are still taking place. Capt Lorie Douglas received her Quilt of Valour at her home in France. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to travel over for the presentation, but her nominator did travel and presented the quilt with all the ceremony that we usually follow: “You will be pleased to know that she did an amazing presentation of the quilt your organisation made for me.  When she read your letter to me on the night of her arrival, I was in floods of tears.  It was a complete surprise and it was the loveliest thing that has happened to me in a very long time.  Please can you pass on my sincerest thank-you to the quilters, Bonnie MacNaught and Sally Elgar who spent so much of their time and love creating this most prized possession.” Near or far, QOVC will make it happen!

I hope you have marked your calendar for the upcoming quilt show at the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo in Kemptville on August 19 and 20, 2022. If you would like to volunteer at our table, I still have spots on both days. For those of you that have volunteered, I will be sending out the schedule shortly.

I hope you are enjoying the summer weather. I hope you are finding time to do a little bit of stitching. I hope that I get a chance to see you at the sew-day, cut-day, or quilt show. I have so much to be grateful for and working with generous people like you is one of the blessings that I cherish.

Happy Stitching,

Nancy

Longarmers for hire: (Quilts of Valour has no budget to pay for long-arm quilting. These quilters graciously volunteer their machines and hours to complete our quilts.)
