Stitches of Gratitude

The quilts above were some of the works that were under construction in March at our sew-day — a few blocks from here, some from there, and four new works of compassion are almost ready to show gratitude. Sew-days are a lot of fun. With the mix of experienced quilters and brand-new quilters, there is always something to learn and something to share. I always come home with more ideas and more inspiration; I hope others do as well. I know that many of them go home with kits which they bring back to the next sew-day — we had 6 new tops and three new quilts added to our collection on top of the work that was created that day. There are more quilt days planned for CannaConnect and for Arnprior — check the dates below. We’d love to see you.

Do you live in the east end of Ottawa? How would you like to take the lead on some east-end sew-days? We can help provide some kits/fabric to work on and I think there would be some interest. Please contact Christine at christine.langlois@quiltsofvalour.ca if you would like to get involved.

These four photos represent just a few of the presentations that have taken place in the last month. It’s hard to convey the excitement that the recipients express when we call to arrange a presentation. They are so honoured and so grateful for these gifts. They have given so much and still they thank us! I received the following email just this week:

“It is a gift far beyond expectation, beyond expression of gratitude and one which I am sure will be handed down through the ages to my children and grand children”. As a person who learned to machine sew, some sixty plus years ago, I am totally amazed at the quality of the work, particularly the straightness of the lines. I can only hope to match them over a length of about 6 inches. Thereafter I am a failure. AND, the swirl patterns. I just do not understand how that is accomplished. I assume a special machine and pattern but will have to go on the internet to discover the secret.

I truly appreciate this gift and will do so for the remainder of my time here amongst the living. It is and will continue to take it’s place in our living room, no matter where we live.

Quilt Show season will be upon us very soon. The Ottawa Valley Quilt Guild is hosting its quilt show on the weekend of May 12 – 14. You will want to check out the beautiful quilts that our local quilters have created in the last two years. Quilts of Valour (Ottawa) will have an information table at the show and we need your help to staff the table. Please check the table below to find which times you could volunteer to help staff the table and then drop an email to Christine.langlois@quiltsofvalour.ca to let her know that you can help. Your duties are light — share information about Quilts of Valour, accept donations to the donation jar, sell some of the items from the QOVC shop.
